Bye Bye Baby Basket
On Saturday, we went to the local fire station to have our car seat baskets with bases switched out for 'big boy car seats' because Evan has reached the maximum length threshold for the Snug Ride basket (29 inches) and has almost reached the weight threshold (22 lbs.) Now when I move him out of the car, I can't just lift the basket with him in it (usually asleep) and plop the whole thing in his stroller or carry the basket into a restaurant or store, the house, etc. I actually have to lift HIM out of the car and hold him with one arm while I gather the diaper bag, my purse and my keys and then lock the car with the other arm/hand. And heaven forbid that it ever RAIN while all of this holding and gathering is taking place because then I'll have to juggle in an umbrella, too! I am really mourning the loss of the baby basket (and it's only been two days!)

Evan versus The Shirt
Evan was playing on the bed when he suddenly got into a little tussle with one of my shirts from the laundry pile. It's not exactly clear who won.

Evan's Theme Song
Evan usually gets really excited when he hears his own special song that his Dad wrote for him. He kicks his legs and squeals happily at the opening notes. However, he doesn't seem all that enthused by this particular performance.

Giggle Fits
This video was shot a couple of months ago but it's one of my favorites. I wonder if Evan will always be so easily entertained?

Twinkle Twinkle Little Star
Even though these animals sail over Evan's head every night, he never seemed to notice them until I sat him upright in his crib. Judging by the look on his face, I'd say he likes them now!
Happy February!
It's hard to believe that we're already into February 2009. Evan just turned 7 months old - also hard to believe - and seemed to have a lot of "firsts" in the first month of the new year. He had his first pureed fruits and vegetables, got his first tooth (followed quickly by the second one), sat upright without support for the first time, and even said his first word, "Da-Da" on command, although he's been reluctant to repeat it since.
We are really starting to have fun with him at this stage, and every evening, we busily try to cram in his dinner-time, play-time, music-time and story-time before we finally get to bed-time. Tom and I have come up with dozens of different tactics to make Evan laugh and we try to make that happen as often as possible. I don't think there is anything sweeter or more pure than the sound of baby laughter.
